The Ollie Chair: Shape-Shifting Seating

Created by RockPaperRobot

The Ollie Chair unfurls with a flourish and retracts instantly with the pull of a string. Handsome and customizable, it’s a versatile primary or secondary seat for homes and businesses, inside and outdoors. The chair's slatted wood seat, called a tambour, allows it to fluidly transform between ergonomic and flat profiles; its aluminum body provides a robust, retractable structure with a sleek look. Out on the balcony, down at the corner coffeeshop, around the co-working table, in a cozy kitchenette, court side, poolside, or stored side-by-side on the wall, the Ollie Chair adds functional flair to any space.

Wake up, wake up! Backerkit surveys are here!
about 7 years ago – Wed, Apr 19, 2017 at 10:28:46 AM

Rise and shine, Backers!

As we mentioned in last week’s e-mail, we are sending you an email with a special link to your personal BackerKit survey TODAY. It is important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information for fulfilling your rewards (deadline is May 15, but the sooner, the better.)

This process is super simple.

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just click on the survey link in the email you will receive shortly, fill it out, and you’re good to go. You will be able to answer questions about your rewards preferences, provide shipping information, and pledge for more “add-ons” if you'd like.

If you ever need to change your survey responses, add or remove add-ons, update your shipping information, or review your information/pledge status, you can click on the link in your survey email again or request your survey link under "Lost your survey?" here on our BackerKit project page. You can make changes any time before we lock down the surveys for processing on May 15th.

NOTE: If you use your Facebook login for your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you would prefer to use, please contact support here and we'll get you sorted out.

And of course we are always here for you directly....or if you don’t want to go through Backerkit. Just email us at [email protected] and we will make everything all better.

Your amazingly busy Ollie Team.

ps. Check out the latest Ollie parts hot off the presses!

Next Steps (Backerkit Survey snooze alarm)
about 7 years ago – Thu, Apr 13, 2017 at 12:58:26 PM

Good morning Backers!

We have been working around the clock on some pretty cool updates that we will be sharing over the month, but in the meantime we wanted to get some logistics out of the way.

Per our mention in the last update, we’ve partnered with Backerkit to help us get you your Ollie Chairs exactly as you imagined them. BackerKit helps us save lots of time by streamlining the survey process, automating data organization, and providing us with pledge management software to make it easy to process your pledge reward shipments.

This means we will be sending out surveys in the next couple days so we can get your:

  • shipping addresses
  • color preferences for chair bases (white, black, or silver)
  • finish/color preferences for any additional custom tambour seats you may have ordered

The invitation email will contain a link to your personal survey.

Don't worry though: we will ping you again Friday or Monday to let you know it's en route to your inbox...(Consider this update as the first "snooze" wake up alarm. And start  dreaming about your Ollie preferences because it will be important to submit your responses as quickly as you can so we can process them.)

Plus, since we haven't slept much in the last month, we figured it was only fair to wake you early just to say, "Good moooooorning!"

Your (caffeinated) Ollie Team

"...and that's how the Kickstarter ended."
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 31, 2017 at 08:15:36 PM

Hello Ollie Family!

Thank you so much for CRUSHING it! On Wed at 9:04am our campaign ended at over 350% of our original goal.

"...and that is how the Kickstarter ended."

We’ve spent the past few days finalizing details and executing some exciting non-details (big things) that we'll be able to share with you all in the next couple weeks. So stay tuned!

We also wanted to tell you that we’ve decided to partner with BackerKit to make sure you’re getting what you expect, when you expect it. We will provide you BackerKit surveys next week so you can (double) confirm orders/addresses and browse add on items. There will also be a link to our Customer Support so you'll have an easy way to ask questions and get answers. Please look out for another update soon with more details about these surveys.

In other news, we were recently featured in a handful of riveting publications (Refinery29, Yanko Design, designboom,  Apartment Therapy) and are now up on UncommonGoods.com (still at pre-order prices but higher than the ones we offered you).

We'll be back in touch with Part II of our Ollie saga, but in the meantime, never hesitate to reach out with any questions or compliments (just making sure you are still reading): [email protected] is the jam for that.

Your biggest fans,

Jess, Pete, Kat, Ed

The final count down!
about 7 years ago – Tue, Mar 28, 2017 at 07:28:53 PM

Dear Backers,

Good G-Ollie! It’s been a wild ride.

Our campaign closes at 9am EST (1pm GMT) this Wednesday (March 29th), and we are so thrilled to be able to say that, thanks to you all, we are now the 2nd highest chair campaign EVER funded on Kickstarter (the first 2 there aren’t actually chairs and the fourth is a desk+chair)! And we’re well over double the next runner up!

But listen up!

Now that we are within the last 48 hours of the campaign, we need your help to get to more stretch goals and grow the population of Olliewood -- we would love to reach the $300k mark for everyone to receive wall mounting hardware. Please #sharethechair to your social networks, friends, colleagues, etc. so we can make a big splash! In fact, here is a little blurb you can just copy and paste:

Final hours! Check out the magical chair on @kickstarter from @rockpaperrobot - bit.ly/RPROllieChair #sharethechair til it ends 9AM 3/29

And now some other updates and logistics:

  • We just reached our $250k stretch goal!! This unlocks a rainbow of felt color options to your inner home decorator. Note that you’ll have to pledge at a tier with “+ Add’l Custom Seats” to take advantage.
  • Please double check that all your payment and address info is correct so we don’t have any payment/fulfillment issues when the campaign ends. (Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time to update your address before the chairs ship, if necessary.)
  • Thanks to everyone who joined our livestream on Friday! It was a ton of fun to chat with more backers and demo a few different techniques for most comfortably carrying your Ollie Chair.

Okay folks, we’ll be in touch again on Wed with some more cool news. We leave you with  this for now....

Project Update #5: Chairway to Heaven
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 17, 2017 at 11:26:38 PM

Dearest Backers,

It’s been a great six-day run since our last update! What exactly has been happening? Well...

(1) We hosted an awesome Kickstarter Live event, with 60+ folks joining for the real-time broadcast and 234 total views over the course of the 48 hours the replay was available on our main campaign page. Thanks to everyone who joined or watched! We had so much fun!

(2) The Open House in our Brooklyn studio was a success! We had so much fun getting to know current backers and future backers, and we actually learned quite a lot about people’s preferences and potential uses for Ollie. Thanks (again) to everyone who joined! We (again) had so much fun!

(3) We hit $200k in funding! Okay, this one actually happened like within the last 2 hours, but the campaign is maintaining great momentum and we still have 2 weeks to go. That momentum is gonna come in handy because…

(4) We unlocked our first stretch goal! $200k in pledges means the custom paint tambours can now be had in any color as a solid coat or with the distressed finish. Each of these custom paint tambours is built (i.e., we make the tambour from loose wood slats, a special textile, and glue) and painted and distressed in our Brooklyn studio by hand. You will be able to select your color and finish preferences on the backer survey at the end of the campaign. Note that you have to pledge at a tier with “+ Add’l Custom Seats” to take advantage of this stretch goal.

(5) And finally, we’re hosting ANOTHER open house this coming Friday at our studio! RockPaperRobot #FridayTryday Open House on Friday 3/17 at 5pm EST. Come experience the Ollie Chair in person and hang with the RPR team. We even have a special surprise, Emily Price (our social media lead and resident cellist) will be playing a cello concert during the event -- while seated on an Ollie Chair (anyone know the number for Guinness World Records?). See here for directions to our studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (Brooklyn, NY, USA), and please shoot us a quick note at [email protected] if you plan to attend!

Thanks for all your support! Don't forget to #sharethechair so we can keep climbing that chairway to unlocking more stretch goals!
